The House of Virgin Mary

Located in the hills above Ephesus is the final resting place of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. Brought to Turkey by the Apostle St John it is believed that the Virgin Mary lived out her final days in a stone house close to Ephesus until her Assumption or Dormition. The stone house visited today, remains a holy site for both Christians and Muslims, and hosts masses regularly. With many visiting to pay their respects and drink from a spring beneath the house believed to have healing properties.

Sirince Village

Located in the hills above Ephesus and Selçuk lies şirince (meaning pretty) an Orthodox village located atop a mountain and one of Turkey’s most charming villages. With well-preserved picturesque houses, overlooking olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees. Şirince a beautifully preserved Greek-Turkish village highlights a period between Turkish and Greek relations in the 1920s and the Greek/Turkish population exchange in 1923. Many today visit this village for its architectural beauty, gourmet food and wine, market stalls and to enjoy their famous Turkish breakfasts.
